I took the weekend off of the blog because I didn't have a lot of time, so I'll write about the entire weekend here. I actually ended up getting a good sleep on Thursday and a lot of it. I went to bed with my fiancé around 1am and I didn't get out of bed until around 10am. I was thinking I would have to make a final run to the food store to get a few more essential items for the weekend, but luckily my fiancé said he would do it when he got out of work. That worked out well because I was able to spend the rest of the morning finishing getting the house ready for the weekend. I wasn't sure what time my twin sister would show up, but I knew she was going to come at some point prior to me going to work. She needed time to start getting the party set up in my house. She ended up arriving right when I was walking out. I spent a few minutes with her then rushed to work.
I had a hard time concentrating for the first half of the work night because I wasn't feeling that great. I felt like I was catching a cold again, which was freaking me out because I was just sick and I wanted to be in good health for the weekend. I ended up having an Airborne during work to try to give my immune system a boost. During the shift I had time to get a coffee as well as eat my Lean Cuisine, so obviously it wasn't that busy of a night at work. When I got home from work not only was my twin sister at my house but my second to oldest sister and her husband was there too. It was very exciting coming home to see a house full of my favorite people:) My sisters were doing things to get ready for the party so I helped a little bit and then everyone went to bed. I was the latest to go to sleep but it wasn't much later than 2am.
For some reason on Saturday I woke up at 8:30am and wasn't able to get to get back to sleep. I think it's because I was so excited about the party. After a little while my fiancé and I went downstairs and everyone else was already up, having coffee. The morning went fast because I was getting myself ready and helping my sisters out here and there. Around 11am my oldest sister arrived with her husband and my twin sisters husband. The next few hours went by really fast and the party officially started around 1pm. I was getting really nervous because my Mom and Dad didn't show up until 12:45pm. My Mom had most of the food! None of the outside family guests arrived until after 1:30pm so everything worked out fine in the end. I have to say that it was a very quick day and absolutely wonderful. My twin sister is so creative and came up with all sorts of decorations fitting the theme. The team was "Flamingo's and Folk!". I don't know where she found all of the flamingo items....there was even pink flamingo toilet paper!
One of my favorite parts of the entire party was how my sisters did the party favors, which was a take home candy buffet. My twin sister hand made all of these pink flamingo take home bags and everyone could get what they wanted to take home. What a great idea! They were all my favorite candies, including jelly beans, cookies and cream Hershey kisses, vanilla tootsie rolls, York peppermint patty bites, rock candy, and the list goes on. Oh yeah, there was also a pink flamingo piñata, which my second to oldest sister was in charge of filling! That was filled with all sorts of Halloween goodies as well as lottery tickets and we had a great time getting into it:) The other really neat part of the shower was that my twin sister and oldest sister gave my fiancé and I a polaroid. They set up strings with clothing pins around the house so people could take a photo then hang it up. I could seriously write about how amazing my shower was forever. I haven't even mentioned any of the food yet! My Mom did a great job with everything she brought and I know my second to oldest sister helped her a lot as well. Actually I think all of my family was chipping in throughout the course of the party. There were stuffed mushrooms, mini quiches, a vegetable tray, a fruit tray, chili, soft pretzels, guacamole, a cheese and meat tray, broccoli salad, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, hamburgers, hotdogs, a flamingo cake which my twin sister made as well as cookies. My one co-worker also brought buffalo chicken dip. I'm forgetting a lot I'm sure! I hope my entire family is aware of how great it was and how grateful I am for everything they all did for me.
The next morning everyone gathered in the kitchen to have coffee and eat a lot of leftovers. I told myself I could eat whatever I wanted because I knew I would be back on my diet come Monday. After "breakfast" we all played one of our shower gifts together, a card game called "Cards Against Humanity". Well, since my oldest sister and her husband left the previous night it was just my fiancé and I, my second to oldest sister and her husband and my twin sister and her husband. It's not a game you can play with parents. After everyone left I spent the rest of the day cleaning the house while my fiancé spent some time with my parents. He actually helped me mop the floors a little bit, so that was really nice. For dinner we all had some leftovers and then we went to bed at a reasonable hour.
I had a hard time getting to sleep and I ended up waking up before my alarm this morning, which never happens. It was really hard concentrating at the beginning of the day, but I couldn't get a coffee until later on because my stomach was still bothering me from eating so much during the weekend. Once I was done with work I came right home and tried not to get too involved with cleaning. I did clean the downstairs bathroom, put a load of laundry in, gather up the garbage from around the house all before taking a shower. Once I was done with I reviewed the address list for the wedding invitations one last time. I spent the rest of the night re-reading my cards from the shower and looking at my presents:)
I can't believe how special I felt this weekend and I can't stop thinking about the party and how amazing it was. Right before my fiancé and I went to bed last night we just told each other how lucky we are to have such amazing family and friends. I wish that I could re-live the day because it was simply perfect. Most of the people that were invited showed up and even my best friend from college surprised me. The gifts we received were all wonderful and generous as well. Okay, that's all I really have time to write about tonight.
One more day :(
